Educational objectives
Acquire adequate knowledge of the factors of health and disease and actions for prevention and health promotion, with particular reference to the educational aspects in public and private structures which provide social and health services

Learn the basic principles and methods in order to program interventions of education / promotion of health to be able to develop, realize, manage and evaluate educational processes
Prerequisites
In order to be able to understand and to know to tackle the course, students must have the basic notions of the human body and the relationships between man and environment, notions that the student should have already acquired in his school curriculum.
This precondition is valid both for attending and non-attending students

The attendance at lectures is not compulsory, but is highly recommended

Learning verification modality
The exam consists of an oral and/or a written test.

Oral test consists on an interview of about 15-30 minutes long aiming to ascertain the knowledge level and the understanding capability acquired by the student on theoretical and methodological contents as indicated on the program. The oral exam will also test student communication skills and his autonomy in the organization and exposure of the theoretical topics.

The written test consists of the solution of 30 multiple choice test. The test has a duration of no more than 45 minutes and is designed to evaluate the ability to correctly apply the theoretical knowledge, the understanding of the issues proposed and the ability to communicate in written form

Introduction to the discipline. The concepts of health and disease, evolution of the concept of health, the natural history of the disease. The determinants of health, social inequalities

Definition and objective Epidemiology. Epidemiological methods for the evaluation of the health / disease.

Definition and objectives of disease prevention: primary, secondary, tertiary.

Principles of Epidemiology and Prevention of Infectious Diseases. Host-parasite relationship: contagion, infection, disease. Ways of transmission of infectious diseases: sexual/ parenteral, aerial, fecal-oral; zoonoses. Interruption of transmission, immune prophylaxis

Principles of Epidemiology and Prevention of Chronic degenerative diseases. Risk factors: genetic, behavioral, environmental.

Health Promotion. Definition, concepts, principles. Application methods. Target areas. The functions of the various actors. Intersectorality. Integration. The operational setting
