The course aims to offer students the possibility of approaching texts of French literature, from the 16th to the 20th century through an in-depth analysis which should give them the possibility of mobilizing their knowledge to apply them in very specific situations.
The poetry of the 16th century, in particular the poetry of Remy Belleau, will give them the possibility of questioning texts rich in elements which come from the Greco-Latin myth and from the Bible, and are strongly linked to the political situation in France in the second half of the century, torn by internal wars. Belleau's work will allow us to reflect on the evolution of poetry but also of the theater of this period.
Montchrestien's play offers the possibility of studying a subject of contemporary politics exploited for the stages. The character of Marie Stuard, from historical reality to the stage, will also make it possible to grasp the novelty of the passage from the 16th to the 17th century.
Balzac's novel offers the possibility not only to reflect on the birth of the realist novel, but offers a striking example of the presence of biblical subjects in the novels of the 19th century.
