- Author readings. Rewrite, transfer, translate. There are spaces in which writing and reading are overlapping and almost confused actions. The course proposes the examination of two similar but distinct literary cases, in which the idea that it is possible and legitimate to betray the original appears and prevails. Can the same literary work be consciously produced in a different form? How far does the peculiarity of a literary work go? Does the work belong to its author? To what extent is reading always rewriting a text and what is the space, even physical, of this new "writing"? These are the general questions underlying the course, which will be addressed in various ways (also with reference to other authors and texts) in the lessons. But, as mentioned, the course focuses on two specific literary cases.

Case 1. Pinocchio. Un libro parallelo by Giorgio Manganelli (1977) is a singular case in which the author, documenting his reading activity, expands, distorts, stresses the text of Carlo Lorenzini, activates dormant or hidden circuits, invents new possible paths, analyzes leaks and jams. A rewriting of an author who is both gesture and literary criticism.
The lessons (first 3 weeks) will be dedicated to Collodi, Pinocchio, the tradition of the fairy tale and youth literature, humorous writing, and to the different and multiple experiences of interpretation and rewriting, also figurative, of the character and adventures of the puppet, and obviously a little space for Manganelli.
Case 2. The second part of the course consists of "frontal" lessons and a seminar. The case is the controversial one of Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron "translated" or perhaps "rewritten" by Aldo Busi in 1990-1991. A much discussed operation and still exposed to much criticism, which wanted not only to update Boccaccio's continuous narrative in the lexicon but also to intervene on the structure of the book of short stories.
The part of the lessons (second 3 weeks) will be dedicated to Boccaccio, Il Decameron, the story of the "novella", to allow a conscious reading of the text. Attending students are required to read and comment on a single short story of the Decameron/e by Boccaccio/ Busi, according to the modalities that will be specified in time. But they are also required to listen to the reports, which will take place in the last three weeks, and each according to the schedule of face-to-face lessons (exceptions and covid situation permitting, otherwise we will proceed online). Therefore, only one "novella" of the two author's hands, on which to produce a comment.
