Educational objectives
The course has the dual aim of leading students into a reflection on the
importance of translation as a bridge between different cultures and
peoples, while allowing them to acquire the language at B2 and B2+
leves.
At the end of the course students should have a thorough knowledge of
the language and the various aspects of a descriptive-analytical model of
the Portuguese and Brazilian language and be competent in all
communication skills at B2 + level of the parameters set by Common
European Framework of Reference for languages.
Prerequisites
Basic Knowledge in the linguistic field.
Teaching methods
Frontal lectures and practice are held in the second semester. The two
modules of the Department (frontal lecters), equivalent to 6 cfu,
correspond to 80 hours of laboratory practice and activities held at the
CLA (Center for Language Studies) which provide basic tools and
materials. For the achievement of the B2 level of linguistic competence
according to the Common European Framework Board, corresponding to
CIPLE (Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira).
Students should register in the Unistudium platform, as all the
information on the courses (held in the Department) and the tutorials
(held at Centro Linguistico dell’Ateneo) will be available on their
respective platforms, which will also provide the students with the basic
teaching materials for the optimal achievement of the course objectives
and information as well as information and proposals on complementary
activities aimed at enriching the student's linguistic and cultural
formation, while providing a much comprehensive framework of the
Portuguese and Brazilian language, literatures and cultures.
Other information
During the course, several activities will take place such as lectures,
panel discussions and film screenings in Portuguese on the course topics
and other issues related to the Portuguese and Brazilian cultures.
Students should report to the professor for the full schedule of these
activities at the beginning of the first and second semesters.
Students with disabilities and/or SLD: for any information on University services, consult the page https://lettere.unipg.it/home/disabilita-e-dsa and contact the Disability and/or DSA Department Coordinator (prof. Alessandra Di Pilla: alessandra.dipilla@unipg.it).
Learning verification modality
The examination will be divided into two phases. The first phase requires
students to write a paper commenting on a translation chosen among
those proposed by the teacher who will be given a score in thirty. The
coherence, adequacy, correctness and exhaustiveness of the paper will
be the beginning of the oral interview that will focus on the choices,
motivations and reflections of the examination and on the theoretical
principles of the theory of translation; at the end will be assigned a
second vote, always expressed in thirtieths. The mathematical mean of
the above grades will constitute the final grade for the part of this course.
Extended program
The course objective is to propose the theoretical and practical study of
translation and its importance in history; the translator is a cultural
mediator.
The course will be divided into two modules. After a brief theoretical
introduction, the former module will cover analysis and practical
translation from Portuguese (in European and Brazilian versions) into
Italian, of journalistic/essay text, and the latter module will be on literary
texts (poetry and prose).
