Contents
The course is planned as an insight of the Ecology I course. It is divided into three parts: evolutionary ecology, ecosystems and biodiversity, and ecological networks. The course comprises a practical part focused on the analysis of environmental and ecological data

Educational objectives
Aims:¿- knowledge acquisition of scientific basis of ecology for the comprehension of the relationships between species and environment ¿¿- skill acquisition in the environmental analysis and inference on the species suitability¿¿- communication skills in scientific contexts
Prerequisites
Basic concepts of ecology are important for a better comprehension of the course topics.
Teaching methods
The course will be taught with oral frontal lessons. Practical activities and computer simulations will be also implemented.

Attendance: Facultative, but advised

Oral exam, integrated with the results of students' seminars on topics regarding the teaching course.

Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems: biodiversity and its conservation. Quantitative aspects of biodiversity. Factors affecting Biodiversity. Ecosystem services.¿¿Part III. Ecological networks. Habitat fragmentation and connectivity. Network properties and its functional and structural elements. Concept and scales of definition. Geographical information systems.
