Educational objectives | Objectives: The course aims to transmit to the student the knowledge and implementation skills of what is described in the program. Ability to manage preoperative anxiety, anxiolysis and sedation techniques, the execution of loco-regional anesthesia and the control of intra and postoperative pain, the treatment of emergencies (syncope, respiratory failure, convulsions and adverse reactions to drugs ), basic life support and defibrillation. The actual acquisition will be verified by oral examination. |
Prerequisites | At the beginning of the lessons, the student must possess valid knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology and general pharmacology, with relevance to the odontostomatological branch. |
Teaching methods | Frontal lessons, exercises on dummy, attendance in the Operating Room, in Intensive Care and in the outpatient clinics of Pain Medicine. |

Extended program | • Profile of the dentist's anesthesiological skills • Preoperative clinical evaluation and risk classification • Elements of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and routes of drug administration. • Anxiety in dentistry • Intravenous, inhalation and other routes sedation techniques. • Intraoperative monitoring techniques • Behavioral techniques for anxiety control: • Locoregional anesthesia • Pain in dentistry • Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of acute pain. • Medical emergencies in dentistry and their treatment: altered consciousness, syncope, respiratory failure, convulsions, cardiovascular accidents, metabolic disorders, adverse drug phenomena. • Basic Life Support & Defibrillation. • Medicines and tools for emergency in the dental practice. • Medico-legal aspects of anesthesiological interest in dentistry. • Neurogenic shock, syncope, anaphylactic shock •Intensive care |
