Educational objectives
Knowledge of the main causes (chemical, physical and biological) responsible for the alterations of the body’s structures and functions
Knowledge of the pathomechanisms leading to biological damage
Knowledge of the host reactive processes to different infectious and non-infectious noxae that are crucial in the process of healing /repair or immunopathology, with particular emphasis on mechanisms of immunity, inflammation, wound healing, repair and chronic inflammation.
Analysis of oral diseases and their relationship to systemic diseases.
Prerequisites
The course requires basic knowledge of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics, Anatomy, Histology.

Causes of disease: endogenous and exogenous factors, physical, chemical, biological and microbiological causes. Hyper- and hypo-vitaminosis.
Cellular and molecular pathology, genetics pathology, congenital pathology and theratogenesis.
Progressive and regressive processes: intracellular and extracellular degenerations. The cellular "Stress". Damage by hypoxia and defects of cellular respiration. Atrophy, hypertrophy.
Cell death: necrosis, apoptosis and autophagy.
Inflammation: mediators of acute inflammation. Hyperemia. Systemic signs of inflammation. Fever. Exudates. Wheal. Edema. Ascites. Abscess. Phlegmon. Septicemia. Empyema. Pustule.
