Educational objectives | The student must acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge of the basic elements of geriatric assessment, diseases and disorders that are more common to or that have particular features in older people, and geriatric rehabilitation. |
Prerequisites | In order to be able to understand the topics matter of the module, students must have the basic notions of anatomy and physiology of nervous and motor systems. |
Teaching methods | Face-to-face lectures. |
Learning verification modality | The assessment is done through an oral examination, lasting about 30 minutes, during which knowledge and skills acquired about each module of the course are evaluated. The student will also demonstrated effective use of appropriate technical terminology. |
Extended program | Principles of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Demography of Aging and Epidemiology of aging-related diseases. Clinical and health care implications of an Aging Population Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). Frail elderly. Definition and goals of CGA Geriatric Syndromes: - Multiple chronic diseases and iatrogenesis; - Decubitus lesions: definition, prevention and treatment; - Nutrition, malnutrition and dysphagia; - Incontinence; - Mobility and falls; - Osteoporosis and fractures; - Delirium, depression and dementia. |
