Contents
A. Feeds, Antinutritional Factors (ANFs) and mycotoxins.

B. Nutrition of ruminant (dairy and beef cattle).

C. Nutrition of non-ruminant (swine, horse).
Reference texts
Didactic material provided by the teacher.
Educational objectives To deepen some peculiar aspects of nutrition and feeding of the main animal species of livestock, taking into account the specific biochemical-digestive-metabolic and safety aspects. In particular, the knowledge relating to feed management and the choice of ingredients in the formulation of the ration of lactating ruminants will be deepened and the
nutritional and feed aspects capable of influencing their health and quantitative-qualitative productivity will be examined.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of animal nutrition and feeding.
Teaching methods Frontal theoretical lessons: in the classroom or with distance learning, with illustration of ppt presentations.

Practical lesson: in the classroom or on the farm, if possible.
Other information

Learning verification modality Oral exam, lasting about 30-40 minutes, aimed at ascertaining the student's level of knowledge, the language property and the ability to connect the topics.

Alternatively, the opportunity of ascertaining the knowledge acquired by the student through the discussion of a ppt presentation will be evaluated.
Extended program Introduction to the course: formulation and verification of the adequacy of the ration.

A. Feeds, ANFs and mycotoxins - Classification. Effect. Damage prevention.

B. Dietetics of ruminants - Theoretical basis of the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Pro-tein System (CNCPS), peNDF and eNDF. Requirements, guidelines in the choice of feeds and verification of the dairy cow ration. Penn State Particle Separator, Rumen fill scoring, Faecal Condition Scoring, Precision Livestock Farming (PLF).

C. Fundamentals of dietology for non-ruminants.

Contents The form includes the study of nutritional and metabolic pathologies of dairy cows. Therefore will be summarily recovered some topics in Physiology and biochemistry of rumen to understand etiopathogenic mechanisms underlying these diseases and possible principles of prophylaxis. They will also consider some secondary diseases to metabolic and nutritional disorders that contribute to cause reductions in productive performances. The module provides for the study of main udder pathologies, like primary and secondary pathologies to the nutritional metabolic balances of BLAP

Material will be provided by the teacher and will consist of lecture slides and scientific articles relating to the topics of study
Educational objectives This module aims to give information about the metabolism of cattle in order to understand some of the metabolic and nurtritional umbalances that lead to performance reduction. We will go through managerial and nutritional factors that may cause production diseases, with the aim of preventing them. We will focus more on nutritional managment of dayri cattle during the different production phases.
Teaching methods The module is organized as follows:
- lectures held by the teacher in charge of the module, relating to the topics listed in the program;
- 1 seminar on the management of emergencies in the stable, held by veterinarians practicing on the territory;
-1 seminar on the nutritional - metabolic pathologies of pigs;
- 1 seminar on the nutritional-metabolic pathologies of sheep and goats.
If the health conditions allow, these seminars will be followed by study trips to cattle, pig and sheep and goat farms.
Extended program the module is organized as follows:
-lectures conducted by the teacher responasabile the form, about the topics listed in the program
-1 seminar on breast diseases
-1 tutorial at the laboratory of the Department of veterinary medicine, which aims to identify which laboratory investigations may be beneficial in the prevention of dismetabolic problems.
