Language of instruction
The course is held within the facilities of the University of Veterinary Medicine. Students are directly involved in the clinical-diagnostic and therapeutic activities of the first-aid service of small animals and large animals.
During practical activities, the student interacts with the veterinarians of the OVUD and also discusses the theoretical aspects of the observed cases.
Each student, collaborating directly with emergency services, will have to personally participate in the various clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers needed to stabilize and monitor critical patients.

Educational objectives
The activities are essentially practical and therefore it is expected that the student will acquire interaction skills with a veterinary team dedicated to emergency management in a 24 hour emergency service. The expected minimum training objective is that the student is able to recognize the clinical signs of an emergency critical patient, maintain calm in that condition, and collaborate with punctuality on the therapeutic maneuvers needed to stabilize the patient.
The first-aid basic ADE represents a first practical approach to emergency clinical activities. The maximum profit is obtained if the student has knowledge derived from the "Red Week Courses" and the teachings of the Medical, Surgical and Obstetric Methodology
Teaching methods
Participation in Emergency Services and First Aid Assistance under the Staff Supervision
Other information
To be admitted to attend the course, you must have the following certificates and requirements:
- Attendance of course on Legislative Decree 81/2008;
- To be covered with anti-tetanical vaccination and present the up-to-date certification, issued by the ASL in charge, at the Didactic Secretariat (Polo Didattico Veterinaria Medicina Veterinaria);
Learning verification modality
There is no evaluation in the form of a oral or written exam, but each student will have to prepare a detailed report on the activity. This report must be compiled on UNISTUDIUM according to the instructions contained in the assignment section. The teacher evaluates the report and assigns a score (max 30/30) that is intended to indicate to the student the value of the product but does not have the value of exam grade. Student preparation is evaluated during the practical activity and on the basis of the presented report. Verbalization of preparation is performed periodically for the group of students who have reached the required hours of attendance.
Extended program
The course is held within the facilities of the University of Veterinary Medicine.
The activities take place in 2 shifts for a total of 25 hours, which are to be held between 17:00 and 08:30 from Monday to Friday.
