Contents	Presentation of the course (framing of the discipline, educational path, purposes). Statutory Boards and other professional associations: organizational structures at central and peripheral levels. The Code of Conducts: guidelines for veterinary practitioners. Animal Protection: general, the experimental animals, animals in intensive farming, stray dog and cat laws. Drugs for veterinary use: general aspects, prescription modality, pharmacovigilance. The sale of animals: general aspects. The Veterinarian as a consultant and part (CTU) at the Courts of Justice.

Ruffo "Legislazione veterinaria" handbook fo veterinarian practitioner by Vincenzo Appicciutoli material provided by the teacher: the student will be given the powerpoint presentations of lectures, accompanied by the full text of the main legislation and articles on the topics, published in national and international papers
Educational objectives	Knowledge: the course has as objective to provide the student the ability to deal with principle of good practice, where the professional act is the result of scientific knowledge, wich must still be subject to updated pos-graduation, of the respect of Professional Ethics, national and international laws, ase well as of the conscience action. Applying knowledge: how to apply the principle of good veterinary practice in clinical practice; how to prescribe medications and manage drug inventories; how to write a clinical record/certificate; how to manage a healthcare facility in compliance with legislation
Teaching methods	- theoretical lessons - practical activity based on simulation of particular situations (how to handle the owner or how to relate to other colleagues) and how to draft clinical records.
Extended program	presentation of the course (framework of the discipline, didactic purposes). The Statutory Boards and other professional association: the central and peripheral organisation. The career opportunities in italy and in foreign countries (1.5 h) - The code of conduct and good practice: general guidelines and details for the veterinary practitioner (2 h). - Professional responsibility: the contractual and extra-contractual liability, the informed consent, euthanasia, certification (1.5 h). - The laws concerning prescription, possession and use of veterinary drugs (3 h). - The legislation and the animal welfare: the european and italian legislations, the experimental animals, animals in intensive farming, stray cats and dogs. The animal buse (3 h). - assessment of defects in the visits of sale (1.5 h). - the veterinarian as a consultant (CTU) at the Courts of Justice (1.5 h). - Bioethics and veterinary practice (1.5 h). - The continuing education programmes (1 h). Practical lessons Simulation of: - how to communicate to owner generic medical information, adverse events during medical procedures (see sudden death of the animal), how to support the howner in making decision of euthanasia (2 h); - compilation of drug prescriptions (2 h); compilation of certificates (2 h); - compilation of clinical records (2 h).
