Educational objectives
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must have:
1 Knowledge of reproductive physiology of livestock animals
2 Knowledge of clinical methodology
3 Knowledge of methods of animal contention
D2 - APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training the student will be able to perform:
1 Clinical examination of different farm animals
2 Diagnosis e therapy of main causes of infertility in different farm animals
D3 - MAKING JUDGMENT
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 assess health status of an individual animal or of the herd
2 perform a diagnostic procedure and therapeutic protocol of the main reproductive diseases
3 evaluate the prognosis of the main diseases
D4 - COMMUNICATION
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 organize, prepare and exhibit, to an audience made up of people of equal level of preparation, a seminar on a data disease with their own evaluations supported by appropriate arguments
2 support an adversarial process with people of equal preparation and experts in different issues, of a regulatory, scientific, procedural and/or technological nature,
3 demonstrate language properties in both written and oral form, as well as the ability to use terminology that is sufficiently appropriate for a correct approach to the profession, which is also important for job interviews.

At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 consult and understand scientific texts, even innovative ones, bibliographic updates, normative dictations, so as to employ them in contexts not only usual for the profession, including research, but also originals
2 manage a sufficiently broad mastery of the subject to guarantee an acceptable basis for continuing professional updating through ongoing lifelong learning.
Prerequisites
According to Regolamento Didattico LM 42 (Propedeuticità)
1 In order to understand the contents of the course, the student must have acquired the necessary knowledge imparted in the courses of Pathology, Animal Nutrition, basic knowledge of Obstetric and Gynecology, Parasitology and Infectious Diseases and Obstetrics. In particular as regards the practical activities, it is essential that the student is able to perform a clinical examination and to approach correctly the animal.
Teaching methods
Practical activity:
The course is organized as follows: - lectures on all subject of the course –
* Pratical sessions of physical examination and detailed examination of several systems such as gastrointestinal, respiratory, mammary and reproductive tract (bovine, ovine, caprine and swine)
* Ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis
* Orchiectomy in different species ( ovine, caprine and swine)
* Diagnosis e therapy of the caseload.
The activities are carried out by dividing the students into 11 groups and 5 outings are scheduled for each group. Materials needed: zootechnical overalls, safety shoes and zootechnical gloves.
SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING: Presentation of a case report on a clinical case observed during the Mobile Clinic activities, based on online searches (2 hours).

The student must have passed the anatomy and physiology exams
Learning verification modality
The exam consists of a practical test on clinical examination of an animal with o without a clinical disorder.
The exam has the objective to verify the level of knowledge achieved by the student relative to the content of the programs, the properties of language and the ability to synthesize.

Extended program
PRACTICAL LESSONS
5 sessions are scheduled in the farms:
1 Identification, Anamnesis, general physical examination. Particular examination of different systems such as gastroenteric, mammary, respiratory, muscoloskeletal and cutaneous in bovine or equine (5 hours)
2 Identification, Anamnesis, general physical examination. Particular examination of different systems such as gastroenteric, respiratory, muscoloskeletal and cutaneous in ewes (5 hours)
3 Rectal palpation in dairy cattle; physical examination of the udder in dairy cows and Clinical examination of the reproductive tract of the cow: monitoring of ovarian activity by transrectal palpation and ultrasound examinations (5 hours)
4 Ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis (5 hours)
5 Management of a dairy cattle farm (5 hours)
SELF DIRECTED LEARNING
