Contents
The course explores the concept of work and organization in sociology.
In particular it studies: the birth of the sociology of work, the main theories of sociology of organization, the industrial issue, Taylor and Ford, Human Relations, the socio-technical approach, the French school of Naville and Friedman, the Italian approach, the Toyota model, Total Quality Management, post-Fordism, flexibility and precariousness. We then study the metaphors of the organization and organizational models with some key concepts such as: leadership styles, conflicts, climate, culture and participation at work. Finally, we study in depth some socio-economic issues concerning the labor market: the elderly, women, young people, immigrants, the unemployed, etc..

Educational objectives
The teaching aims to provide the cognitive basis of the sociology of economic and work processes and to promote the acquisition of sociological skills of work organization. The main knowledge that students acquire at the end are:
- Knowledge of the historical development of the sociology of work,
- Knowledge of the main sociology theories of the organization: Taylor and Ford, Human Relations, French school and Italian approach, organization metaphors and organizational models, Barnard, Blauner, Braverman, Toyota model and post-Fordism;
- knowledge of how organizations work: leadership, conflict, climate, culture and participation;
- knowledge of the dynamics of the contemporary labor market and flexibility.
Prerequisites
In order to better understand the contents developed during the course the student (attending and not attending) must know the main theories and concepts of general sociology and social research methodology.
Teaching methods
Lessons. In-depth e-learning on the Unistudium platform. Movie/film screenings. Scientific seminars (where possible).

The course will take place on Microsoft Teams.
Students who include this teaching in their curriculum as an exam of their choice are not required to attend.
Learning verification modality
Oral examination.
In order to take the exam it is compulsory to enrol through the Unipg esse3 system, both for students enrolled in the course in Science for Investigation and Security and for students who intend to take the exam as an exam of choice and therefore coming from another course of studies.

In case a student intends to anticipate his/her exam in a year preceding the one it is scheduled in his/her curriculum, it is recommended to anticipate as well the attendance of the lessons and to schedule the exam in the first useful session after the lessons have been concluded.
