Educational objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the student with the tools necessary to develop a certain degree of awareness about the general methods of learning the foreign language and more specifically, with reference to the context of nursery and primary school. It is proposed to pay particular attention to the development of the main language skills, with particular attention to oral skills (listening and speaking) with the ultimate aim of making the student/future teacher aware and autonomous in the construction of learning units for the class also through the didactization and adaptation of authentic material
Prerequisites
The five-year course of Primary Education Sciences for the qualification to teaching in Kindergarten and Primary School, provides that students reach an intermediate level of English language proficiency (Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, CEFR).
The achievement of this level must be certified in the fifth year by passing a linguistic-cultural and methodological test (curricular value: 2 credits), which gives the student the opportunity to teach the English language at primary school and childhood.
Teaching methods
Lectures, microteaching, "workshop", group work, discussion
Other information
At the end of the course the student will have to demonstrate to know the main didactic approaches, to know how to create a learning unit and to know how to choose or adapt the authentic material to the needs of his class group. It will also have to demonstrate the ability to evaluate and take into account the factors that condition the success of learning an LS.
Learning verification modality
The final assessment / evaluation will consist in the drafting of a short creative text based on the materials and activities carried out during the course. It can generally be the written production of a fairy tale and/ or the establishment of a structured learning unit for small groups and/or individual (student workers). The presentation of the uda activities will be carried out through experimentation in microteaching in the two lessons provided as an exam.
Extended program
This course offers a practical introduction to the basic techniques of teaching English in primary school and childhood. The module will deal with objectives and methodology illustrated by various examples of practical activities with particular reference to the use of the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing; the use of digital techniques and audio video, all' recreational activity to learn and strengthen the new lexicon with examples of practical activities for the use of songs, stories, nursery rhymes, "arts and crafts" and "drama" in the teaching of the language with the aim of stimulating interest on the part of the pupil. Especially the course wants to provide a series of activities that a teacher can apply directly in the classroom - a fundamental help for the first steps of the new teacher
