Contents IMMUNOPATHOLOGY
– The immune reactions as a cause of disease (from type I to type VII): autoimmunity (major systemic and organ diseases and related pathogenic mechanisms); atopic diseases (allergies, asthma, anaphylaxis); autoinflammatory diseases.
– Transplant rejection and Graft vs. Host Disease.
– Immunology and immunotherapy of cancer: immune response against tumors; tumor antigens; tumor immune-evasion; adoptive and active specific immunotherapy.

Educational objectives At the end of the course, the student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding:
– The immune system: purpose, organization and components; Innate and adaptive immunity; system immunology.
– Inflammation. Regulation of inflammation: The role of the microbiota.
– Antigen processing and presentation; activation of lymphocytes T and B.
– Central and peripheral immune tolerance.
– Immunological memory. The antimicrobial response. Immunology and cancer immunotherapy. Transplantation immunology.
– Auto-inflammatory diseases and autoimmune diseases. Allergies. The primary and secondary immunodeficiencies.
Prerequisites For the understanding of the course are necessary notions of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics, Anatomy, Histology.
