- The course examines the main issues of agri-food law under international and European Union law. Particular attention is paid to the (environmental, social and cultural) sustainability, also in light of the EU's From Farm to Fork strategy and Agenda 2030.

- The course will provide the theoretical and disciplinary knowledge concerning the international and European regulatory framework on food and agriculture, with particular reference to the environmental and social sustainability of the agro-food system.

- For attending students, there is the possibility of making a presentation, which will be taken into account for the purposes of the final evaluation.
- Learning verification modality
- The exam consists in an oral test, i.e. an interview about the topics included in the programme (lasting approximately 15 minutes), aiming to ascertain the knowledge level and the understanding capability acquired by the student on the topics included in the programme.
- Extended program
- The course will examine the relevant international law provisions, starting from the international trade agreements on trade in agricultural products, both within the WTO (Agreement on Agriculture, SPS Agreement, TRIPs Agreement), and bilaterally (free trade agreements), as well as the role of the various instruments of international cooperation to promote food security. Particular attention will be paid, in this context, to the legal regime of plant genetic resources (Nagoya Convention and FAO Treaty on plant genetic resources), to the role of international law in the protection of traditional knowledge of agricultural interest, to the emergence of peasants' rights and “biocultural” rights in the current context of climate change.
With reference to the sources of European Union law, articles 38-44 of the TFEU and the main acts of secondary law will be analysed. Particular attention will be paid to the CAP, to rural development policy, to the "From Farm to Fork" strategy. The rules on the quality of agri-food products and their free circulation, the legislation on GMOs and coexistence will be examined. Finally, the knowledge of some aspects of European legislation on food safety and of the legal profiles connected to risk assessment and management will be discussed. - Obiettivi Agenda 2030 per lo sviluppo sostenibile
- The course tackles many issues falling within the scope of Agenda 2030, with particular reference to the sustainability of agriculture and the right to food, the fight against climate change, the right to water.
