Educational objectives The learning outcomes are compliant with the provisions in the didactic regulations of the degree course as published on the web site:http://www.med.unipg.it/cclIt is expected that the student acquires:
- Knowledge of etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic and laboratory tests, pathophysiological basis of therapy, principles of surgical approach to cardiomyopathies, heart failure, myocarditis, pericarditis, endocarditis, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension, acute and chronic cor pulmonale
- skills allowing a proper approach to patients with cardiomyopathies, heart failure, myocarditis, pericarditis, endocarditis, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension, acute and chronic cor pulmonale, and adequate understanding of the diagnostic role of imaging studies in this context
Prerequisites
Teaching methods The course is structured in frontal lectures, that will be organized in a coordinated way among teachers responsible for the various teaching modules. In addition, the following activites may be planned:- seminars- practical interactive training sessions, with special focus on clinical evaluation of patients with cardiovascular diseases, also with the use of simulation techniques.
Other information
Learning verification modality MODE OF CONDUCTING THE EXAMINATION:
Oral test lasting about 15 min consisting of 2 questions including 1 question about the clinical presentation, semeiotics, pathophysiology, and diagnosis of major cardiovascular diseases (see syllabus) and 1 about the description of an ECGRaphic tracing of a cardiac arrhythmia. An 'additional question on the minimum essential knowledge may be asked in the case of an unsatisfactory answer to the previous 2 questions.

VERIFICATION OF CLINICAL SKILLS: interpretation of an ECGraphic report and/or cardiac auscultatory finding

VERIFICATION OF SKILLS ACQUIRED DURING THE INTERNSHIP: description of a cardiological diagnostic technology or procedure

METHOD OF ISSUING FINAL VOTE: arithmetic mean of the grades obtained in the individual disciplines
Extended program CARDIOLOGY and HEART SURGERY

Cardiovascular instrumental investigations and clinical applications of instrumental investigations in cardiology: ECG, echocardiography, ergometric test, myocardial scintigraphy, cardiac CT, cardiac magnetic resonance.

Language of instruction Italian
Contents Internal medicine
Reference texts Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, McGraw-Hill, ultima edizione/last edition
Educational objectives The course teaches to dentistry students a correct information on the most important internal pathologies, with particular attention to those of greatest interest and most frequent in dental clinical practice.
Prerequisites The student must have passed the Pathological Anatomy exam and the Internal Medicine Internship exam
Teaching methods The teaching method adopted, useful for achieving the expected qualifying characteristics, provides for the horizontal and vertical integration of the knowledge acquired in the training course and is mainly centered on the ability to solve problems and make decisions, on early contact with the patient, on the acquisition of good clinical skills and in the human relationship with the patient.
This teaching method uses lectures and professional training.
Other information
Learning verification modality METHOD OF CONDUCTING THE EXAM: Oral test lasting approximately 15-20 minutes divided into at least 2 questions, 1 of which relating to the diagnosis of internal diseases (see programme) and 1 relating to therapy. A further question on the minimum necessary knowledge may be asked in the event of an unsatisfactory answer to the 2 previous questions.
VERIFICATION OF CLINICAL SKILLS: interpretation of a radiological, instrumental specialist, laboratory report
VERIFICATION OF THE SKILLS ACQUIRED DURING THE INTERNSHIP: description of a technology or diagnostic process relevant to internal medicine
METHOD OF ALLOCATION OF THE FINAL MARK: arithmetic or weighted average of the marks obtained in the individual disciplines, as established by the degree course
