Educational objectives
The Histological and Anatomical Basis of Human Diseases studies the causes (etiology) and pathological phenomena (pathogenesis), at both the histopathological and molecular level, as well as the main techniquest for the biopathological characterization of the most common human neoplasms, for prognostic and therapeutic purposes. The course allows students to acquire knowledge about the basic mechanisms underlying the most frequent human diseases, such as oncological or cardiovascular diseases.
The skills acquired in the study of this discipline will allow the student to achieve a broad overview of the correlation between the environment, the main extrinsic and intrinsic risk factors, the etiopathogenetic and molecular mechanisms and the development of pathologies; moreover it will allow to obtain the tools to have a clear picture of the causes of the pathologies and their specific mechanism of onset and development, in order to propose appropriate behaviors and lifestyles and, furthermore, identify the appropriate therapeutic targets/discover new therapeutic targets for treatments, also as personalized as possible.
Prerequisites
The acquisition of knowledge relevant to the course of HISTOLOGICAL AND ANATOMICAL BASIS OF HUMAN DISEASES requires the achievement of notions relevant to Biology and Genetics, Histology, Biochemistry, Physiology and General and Molecular Pathology. The skills obtained in the aforementioned disciplines are essential for the student to fully understand the concepts of etio-pathogenesis of histology and pathological anatomy.
The student thus prepared at the didactic level will derive a considerable profit from the course.
Teaching methods
Taught lessons.

Practical activity at the laboratory of General Pathology.

There are courses, materials and/or assessment methods consistent with the needs of students with disabilities and / or SLDs.

Learning verification modality
Oral exam

The exam relating to this module includes an oral test of about 15 minutes which will focus on 2 questions relating to theoretical topics indicated in the program (Systematic Pathology e Special part) + 1 question about the special part of laboratory practice (Prof. Stefania Pieroni's program)
.
The purpose of the oral exam is to verify the level of knowledge reached by the student on the theoretical contents indicated in the program, in order to evaluate the student’s ability to present them, with language properties and terminological appropriateness, as well as student’s problem-solving skills, related to the use of molecular biology techniques in the Anatomic Pathology field.

There are courses, materials and / or assessment methods consistent with the needs of students with disabilities and / or SLDs.
