Educational objectives The course aims to provide the cognitive support and fundamental critical tools to interpret the phenomenon of design, in a period between the mid-19th century and the present day. In particular, students must acquire clear skills in the history of design in its essential constituents, with particular reference to the link between the major and minor arts. In particular, attention will be paid to the birth of industrial design and its permanence in current affairs, both in Italy and internationally.
Prerequisites The student must possess basic historical and cultural knowledge relating to the historical periods covered (from the mid-19th century to the 20th century).
Teaching methods Ex-cathedra lessons, thematic insights and seminars and study visits.
Other information Students will be given in-depth articles and essays and course slides. This material will be available on Unistudium with an access key.
Learning verification modality Oral exam on the entire program covered in class. Furthermore, the student will be able, optionally, to present to the commission a written paper on an aspect covered in the course and agreed with the teacher. This writing must be unpublished, structured like a thesis and accompanied by a final bibliography.
