- Educational objectives
- The course aims to provide basic knowledge on how the European Union (EU) works and to promote the funding opportunities offered by the European Commission (EC). The aim is to strengthen professional design and management skills in relation to European fundings.
The EU funds policies and programmes in order to increase the economic, social and cultural development and integration of member states.
It is possible to join these funding opportunities through the implementation of projects promoted by different stakeholders of the economic system: companies, associations, financial institutions, public bodies, both individually and in consortia. - Prerequisites
- The course is open to students of master’s degrees.
- Teaching methods
- The course is organised as follows:
• the first section is dedicated to analysing the several types of EU funding, with an in-depth study of project management, in order to gain direct knowledge of the different project tools.
• the second section consists of a study visit to the EU institutions in Brussels, in order to understand how they work and to meet graduates involved in European policies. - Other information
- The study visit to Brussels is mandatory. The student shall bear the costs of the study visit. For classroom lessons (8 hours), attendance is mandatory for 75% of the lessons.
- Learning verification modality
- The final exam is based on:
- project work (to be submitted 5 days before the final exam);
- test:
o 30 multi-choice questions.
o 3 open-ended questions. - Extended program
- First section:
Practical lessons on European project management (8h)
- methodology for drafting European projects.
- monitoring and selection of funding opportunities.
- project leader, consortium and project management structures.
- project planning methodology.
- structuring a project into Work Packages (WP);
- project forms for direct EU programmes.
- budget structuring and reporting.
- exercises on practical cases and forms of recent or existing calls for proposals.
Second section:
Two-day study visit to Brussels
- visit to the EU Institutions: European Parliament, European Commission, Economic and Social Committee, Representation of Italy in Brussels.
