Contents
Key elements of anatomical terminology (positions, planes, axes, etc.). Diaphragm, pelvic diaphragm, back, chest and abdominal wall. Shoulder girdle and pelvic girdle. Upper and lower limbs.
Reference texts
AA.VV., Anatomia Umana-FONDAMENTI, edi-ermes (volume unico, Ed. 2018). Bucchieri, Gobbi, Musumeci, Anatomia per le Scienze Motorie, EdiSES (Ed. 2025). Anatomia funzionale e imaging. Sistema locomotore, edi-ermes (Ed. 2018).
Educational objectives
The main goal of the course is to provide students with the foundations to: 1) recognize and describe the individual bones of the human body and their topographical location; 2) identify the different types of joints; 3) understand the origins, insertions, and actions of the skeletal muscles of the limbs, abdominal wall, and thorax; 4) apply this knowledge to the main movements involved in both sporting and non-sporting activities."
Prerequisites
To effectively follow and understand the topics covered in the course is necessary for the student to have a basic knowledge biology, histology, chemistry, biochemistry and physics as it is normally acquired in high school.
Teaching methods
Face-to-face lectures with the use of powerpoint slides. Use of anatomic models related to the topics developed at lessons. The education material presented during the lectures (with the exclusion of illustrations protected by copyright) will be made available to the students in electronic format (pdf files) and it does not replace the use of suggested books.
Other information
Slides of the lessons are available at www.unistudium.unipg.it
Learning verification modality
The level of learning achieved will be assessed through a structured oral examination, lasting approximately 20–30 minutes, aimed at evaluating the student’s knowledge of the anatomy of the musculoskeletal system. The student may take this examination only after successfully completing the module of Principles of Human Anatomy.

Extended program
Main elements of anatomical terminology (positions, planes, axes, etc.). General characteristics of bones, muscles, and joints. Back: vertebral column, joints, and muscles. Thorax: bones, joints, and muscles. Diaphragm and muscles of the abdominal wall, pelvic diaphragm. Upper limb: bones, joints of the shoulder girdle and free limb, muscles. Lower limb: bones, joints of the pelvic girdle and free limb, muscles.

Contents
Endocrin system. Functional anatomy of upper and lower limbs; muscle compartments, vessels and nerves. Proprioceptors. Functional anatomy of nervous system: sensory system, motor system, Autonomic Nervous System. Cranial nerves.
Reference texts
AA.VV., Anatomia Umana-FONDAMENTI, edi-ermes (volume unico, Ed. 2018).
Anatomia funzionale e imaging. Sistema locomotore, edi-ermes (Ed. 2018).
Atlante di Anatomia Umana, Netter F.H., Ed. Elsevier.
Educational objectives
Improving knowledge of functional anatomy of organs, apparatuses and systems related to motor activity. Understanding the fine action of respiratory muscles. Improving knowledge of nervous system organization with particular emphasis on the nervous control of movement, and sensitivity and motor tracts. Improving knowledge about vasculature and nerves of upper and lower limbs. Acquiring a fine knowledge of the anatomical basis of human movements. Improving the ability to evaluate physiological and pathological conditions through the acquired anatomical knowledge and by a scientific approach. Improving a specific technical language in the anatomo-physiology field
Prerequisites
In order to fully understand the items treated at lessons it is important to have knowledge of basic human anatomy and the organization of the anatomical apparatuses. Knowledge of joint's clasification
is also important. Knowledge of biomechanical elements is advantageous for the comprehension and integration of the treated items.
Teaching methods
Face-to-face theoretical lessons with the Powerpoint slides. Use of plastic models related to the topics developed at lessons. The education material presented during the lessons (with the exclusion of illustrations protected by copyright) will be made available to the student in electronic format (pdf files).

Learning verification modality
Written exam. The written exam is favourite with respect the oral one because it permits to verify the possess of a higher number of competences. It consists of multiple-choice and/or open questions. Questions are related to the items treated at lesson in proportion to the time to them dedicated. The multiple-choice test is made of 60 questions with 4 answers each, with only one answer right. Each right answer has a 0.5 points value; no penalties are present for wrong answers. The duration time is 1.5 hours. In the case of open questions, the exam consists of 4 questions about different items of the program aimed at ascertaining the degree of comprehension of the student about theoretical and methodological contents of the program; the duration time is 1.5 hours.
Extended program
unctional anatomy of upper and lower limbs; muscle compartments, vessels and nerves. Proprioceptors. Functional anatomy of nervous system: sensory system, motor system, Autonomic Nervous System. Cranial nerves.
