The ADE foresees the carrying out of practical activity of abdominal and thoracic ultrasound in ruminants of OVUD, AZD and Umbrian farmers.

Educational objectives
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY The student has to: - know the ultrasonographic anatomy of abdomen and thorax - know the ultrasound technique to identify abdominal and thoracic organs D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING At the end of the training, the student will be able to: - how to approach an ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen and thorax D3 - AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT At the end of the training, the student will be able to: - know how to perform and interpret the ultrasonographic appearance of the abdominal and thoracic organs D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS At the end of the training, the student will be able to: - know how to report to an audience the ultrasonographic anatomy and normal appearance of the abdominal and thoracic organs D5 - LEARNING SKILLS At the end of the training, the student will be able to: - consult and understand scientific test, literature update where the abdominal and thoracic ultrasonographic techniques is used and described.
Prerequisites
In order to understand and to apply the procedures required in this course, it is necessary to have passed the exams of Special Pathology and Veterinary Medical Clinic I.
Teaching methods
The ADE is organized as follows: practical exercises at the OVUD ruminant shelter, the AZD of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and farms in the Umbrian territory. Each student will perform a complete thoracic and abdominal ultrasound examination on the ruminants present in the various locations where the teaching will take place. The last day will be dedicated to the interpretation and ultrasound diagnosis of clinical cases under the supervision of the teacher and his collaborators.

The course includes additional activities with Dr. Maria Cicogna, Dr. Federica Valeri and Dr. Piero Boni.
Learning verification modality
Final discussion with the students. Preparation of power point about previously assigned clinical cases, in order to evaluate the methods of approach to the ultrasound examination and the knowledge acquired during the ADE relating to the ultrasound examination of the thorax and abdomen.
Extended program
The ADE involves practical activities of thoracic and abdominal ultrasound to be carried out on ruminants and interpretation of abnormal findings on clinical cases. Acquisition of ultrasound scans for examination of the lung, heart, liver, spleen and lymph nodes, forestomach, intestine, urogenital system. Description and interpretation of ultrasound images.
