Educational objectives
At the end of the module, the student will be able to: -Recognize and manage cardiac arrest: Identify early signs of cardiocirculatory arrest. Correctly apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers according to the BLS-D (Basic Life Support and Defibrillation) guidelines. Understand the principles of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and the role of the nurse in an advanced resuscitation team. -Understand the pathophysiology of respiratory failure: Distinguish between hypoxemic and hypercapnic respiratory failure. Evaluate clinical signs and interpret simple instrumental data (respiratory rate, SpO2, basic blood gas analysis). Safely manage oxygen therapy and provide basic respiratory support: Know the indications, contraindications and methods of administration of oxygen therapy. Correctly use the main devices (goggles, masks, reservoirs). Early recognize signs of respiratory deterioration that require therapeutic escalation. -Recognize and intervene in the main forms of shock: Distinguish between hypovolemic, septic, cardiogenic and anaphylactic shock. Assess the patient in shock and participate in the implementation of treatment according to the ABCDE priorities. Collaborate in the timely administration of fluids, drugs and/or advanced supports. -Deal with the main pediatric and obstetric emergencies: Recognize the main emergencies in the pediatric field (airway obstruction, convulsions, arrest). Collaborate in assistance in critical obstetric situations (postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia). -Intervene in the initial management of the polytraumatized patient: Apply the principles of primary and secondary trauma assessment according to the ABCDE approach. Recognize clinical signs of vital impairment in a traumatic context. Collaborate with the multiprofessional team in the stabilization of the traumatized patient.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the contents of the lessons and the learning objectives, the student must have a solid foundation of physiology, pathophysiology and clinical pharmacology, as well as the ability to integrate information from different disciplinary sectors.
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons, exercises on dummy, attendance in the Operating Room, in Intensive Care and in the outpatient clinics of Pain Medicine.
