Contents
The course purpose is to reflect on the phenomenon of linguistic variation as an inherent property of natural languages. In a first moment it will give particular attention to the fundamentals of the theory of linguistic variation and the socio-cultural context of the linguistic identity. In a second step it includes the in-depth analysis of linguistic variants of the Portuguese language (concepts of norm, variant, proto - variant and Creole) in a diachronic and synchronic view. Further, our analysis will focus, in a contrastive perspective, the main features of the language variants through the study of Corpora, that are representative of spoken and written language.

Educational objectives
After completing the course, students should have a thorough knowledge of the meta-language and the descriptive and analytical model of the Portuguese language and its variants and be competent in all the communicative skills to the level C2 of the parameters set by the Council of Europe. In addition, he must has acquired the theoretical tools and applications for linguistic analysis and be able to use the main tools in the specific areas of the study of the Portuguese language and Brazilian.

Students must possess the Portuguese language level of C1
Teaching methods
Lectures and exercitation performed on both semesters. For the two modules that make up the course of official teaching (lectures), equivalent to 6 CFU credits, they correspond eighty hours of exercises and laboratory activities, held at CLA (University Language Centre), which provides tools and activities materials essential to the achievement of the level C2language proficiency according to the Common Framework of the Council of Europe, corresponds to DUPLE (Diploma Universitário de Português Língua Estrangeira).Students can reach level C2 in the end of the exercitation cycle correspond respectively to the Department three modules. Students are invitedto join the platform Moodle, because all information about courses (held in Department) and exercises (held at the Language Centre of the University) will be available in their respective platforms Moodle. In them they will also be placed at the disposal of the students critical teaching materials to achieving optimal courses and the information and proposals for complementary activities that aim to enrich the language and cultural training of the student and that seeks to provide a framework as complete as possible of Portuguese and Brazilian language, literature and culture.

The course is annual, first and second module (each one of 36 hours of lessons) will be held in the first semester and the third one (18 hours of lessons) in the second semester. possible, courses will be integrated with extracurricular activities, including, transversal and multidisciplinary seminars, held by the professor in charge of the course or by visiting professors, movies or documentaries sessions and the organization of translation’s workshops, in order to accelerate and complete language skills of students. nal written /or orale (Module III) examination with a single vote. Non- attending students must contact the teacher to establish supplementary materials. At the CLA, the student must complete, at the end of the cycle of exercises a level test (C2) considered propaedeutic for the exams held in the Department. The evaluation will consist in several stages. As for the language course Portuguese and Brazilian II, prepared by the professor responsible for the discipline, the tests performed consists on: Module I : questions and grammar exercises of closed answer . Module II : I twill be request a short paper in Portuguese on a current topic . Module III : translation of a text from Italian to Portuguese All the exams / tests can be carried out with the support of the bilingual dictionary. As regards the tests, to be carried out by mother tongue collaborators, they will consist of an exam, written and oral, aimed to assess the actual acquisition of the four skills (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and oral expression). In particular, the written examination will consist of exercises of interpretation and production of texts, while the oral exam - for access to which you must get, in the written (about three hours), a score less than 18/30 - will focus on speaking skills of the student, who is called to show their mastery of the Portuguese language corresponding to the required level. The oral test will last for approximately twenty minutes and will consist of a dialogue led by linguistic associate, in order to evaluate the correction, fluency and communication effectiveness of the student. Ratings resulting from these two tests, written and oral, and the evaluation of student participation in the exercises included in the Moodle platform and / or proposed by Teletandem, will then be the arithmetic average with the sum of the votes of the language tests mentioned above.
