Analysis and in-depth study of Luca Signorelli's artistic career development, from his beginnings to the major project of the Cappella Nova (or Chapel of San Brizio) in the Orvieto Cathedral. This study will be conducted in relation to the research and new scientific findings that emerged from the various exhibitions promoted during the centenaries of the anniversaries of the deaths of Raphael (2020), Perugino (2023), and Signorelli (2023). The career development of Perugino and Raphael will find decisive points of comparison with that of Luca Signorelli.

The educational program will be structured with frequent seminar opportunities, in which students will actively participate in bibliographic research, didactic presentations, the creation of educational PowerPoint presentations, and on-site visits to monumental and museum sites. These opportunities will be particularly dedicated to studying the Pala Vagnucci in the Museo Capitolare di San Lorenzo in Perugia, the cloister of Monteoliveto Maggiore, and the Cappella Nova (or Chapel of San Brizio) in the Orvieto Cathedral.

It is required to read at least four essays and participate in a seminar activity of the student's choice. Further bibliographic indications, also modulated on the specific interests of the students, will be provided in class

Educational objectives
The History of Modern Art II discipline represents an optional choice and constitutes the in-depth study of a subject already covered, thus becoming a further opportunity to refine one's study skills and mature one's interpretative abilities.
It is therefore intended to achieve a more mature historical-critical awareness of the various processes of figurative elaboration that involved Luca Signorelli, his formative experience with Perugino, his position as a fundamental personality in the turning point between a naturalistic but iconic figurative language like that of Perugino and the new sixteenth-century interest in anatomy and the body in space, together with the search for emotional expressions.
The aim is thus to provide the tools to bring to fruition a more conscious ability to read the works, an analysis of figurative experiences accompanied by an adequate methodological awareness, a development of autonomous research and processing skills.

Knowledge
Acquire more mature knowledge of this protagonist of the history of Italian art, of his way of breaking elaborated especially in the first phase of his career, from his training under Piero della Francesca, his participation in the construction site of the Sistine Chapel, to the works of the 90s close to Perugino, to the great stage of the Cappella Nova.
.
Skills
Knowing how to frame the activity of this author, his works and the construction sites of which he was the protagonist, in relation to the original historical, liturgical and environmental contexts. In-depth analysis of the technical and conservation conditions of his works, of their iconographic interpretation, of their critical-bibliographic success, of the various roles of clients and collectors.

Capacity
Develop an adequate ability to develop independent paths of research and historical-critical analysis in view of the preparation of the master's degree thesis. These skills will be developed through participation in seminar groups which will encourage the formation of independent paths of bibliographic research, analysis and synthesis processes, didactic and narrative exposition skills.
Prerequisites
A good knowledge of the main figurative phenomena of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries.
Teaching methods
rontal lessons with interactive dynamics and frequent student involvement. Educational visits to the National Gallery of Umbria and the main museums where Luca Signorelli's works are preserved.
Seminar activities for study and in-depth analysis of the contents organized for students below. the supervision of the teacher.
