Which System in Europe for Evaluating the Nutritional Requirements?
2023; - Educational objectives
- The student must be able to evaluate the ideal sport horse and know the basics of selection
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must:
- have knowledge of the origin and evolution of the sport horse, know the breed standards of sport horses,
- know the methods of phenotypic, genetic and health evaluation,
- know the selection schemes.
D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training activity the student must:
- know how to evaluate a sports horse,
- know how to interpret morphological, performance and health indices.
- know how to evaluate an adequate ration for a sports horse
- know how to interpret molecular genetic markers
D3 - INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
At the end of the training activity the student must be able to:
- evaluate the subjects according to the selection objective,
D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the training activity the student must be able to:
- know how to organise, prepare and present, to an audience made up of people of the same level of preparation, a presentation on an ideal sports horse with its own
assessments supported by appropriate arguments,
- support a cross-examination with people of equal preparation and experts in different topics of a regulatory, scientific, procedural and/or technological nature,
- demonstrate language skills, using sufficiently appropriate terminology for a correct approach to the profession, also for the purposes of job interviews.
D5 - LEARNING ABILITY
At the end of the training activity the student must be able to:
- consult and understand scientific texts, bibliographic updates, regulatory provisions, in order to use them in professional contexts in the practical veterinary field but also in research
- possess a sufficiently broad mastery of the subject to guarantee a basis for continuing professional updating through permanent continuous training. - Prerequisites
- In order to understand and be able to apply most of the topics described in the course, it is necessary to have successfully taken the exams in Animal Biology, General Physiology, special veterinary medicine, special zootechnics and biotechnology applied to livestock production, general zootechnics and genetic improvement
- Teaching methods
- Theoretical and practical lessons on farms.
Debates on the topics covered - Learning verification modality
- The evaluation method does not include tests but there will be a suitability that derives from attendance at the course and from the debate
