Contents
The course is focused to provide the basics of specific biotechnologies for
production of high quality woody plants.
Micropropagation is proposed as the main in vitro culture technique for the
for nursery production. The applicability of innovative technologies for
technologies for plant material management will be described.
Reference texts
The teacher provides the course slides and scientific papers as
research materials.
For detailed study the follow scientific texts can be consulted:

Educational objectives
The teaching provides students with theoretical knowledge and
and practical skills related to specific biotechnological applications for
production of high quality woody plants through vegetative
propagation. The basics of in vitro cultures (such as totipotency, regenerative
regenerative processes and growth conditions) and the main techniques, such as
techniques, such as micropropagation, will be covered with particular
with special emphasis on their applications in plant nurseries. Innovative techniques and
technologies to improve the management of in vitro derived plant material will be
will be described.
Prerequisites
Students should know specific basics of plant propagation and in vitro culture in order to understand the material and apply the techniques
described during the course. It is recommended that they have specific knowledges on
botany, chemistry, woody plant cultivation and propagation, and
propagation and tissue culture techniques
Teaching methods
The course is composed of lectures, practical training at the laboratory of
"in vitro cultures" of DSA3, technical guided visits and seminars.
Other information
Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences, University
of Perugia, Borgo XX Giugno 74, Perugia.
Optionale attendance.
Office hours: every day by appointment.
Learning verification modality
Final oral examination according to the academic calendar.
The evaluation will be based on an oral examination (approximately
50 minutes), in the form of questions and answers, with the aim of verifying the theoretical knowledge in the field of teaching and the ability
to propose solutions to study cases related to the course.
