Reference texts | no reference text, the material used in class will be made available to students |
Educational objectives | At the end of the course the student will have acquired knowledge concerning the rules governing safety in the workplace with particular reference to the laboratory. Must know the main risk factors characteristic of the laboratory (biohazard, chemical hazard, risk from carcinogens and mutagens, physical risk) and measures of prevention and protection. Must also know the correct methods of waste management and procedures for prevention and fire protection. |

Extended program | - Applicable regulations - Biological risk factors and collective protective equipment - Chemical risk factors - Carcinogenic and mutagenic risk factors - Physical and related risk factors* - Personal protective equipment (PPE) - Waste management - Fire protection elements * excluding ionizing radiation risk factors. By the end of the course, students should have acquired knowledge of the regulations governing workplace safety, with particular reference to the laboratory environment. They should be familiar with the main risk factors inherent in laboratory work (biological risk, chemical risk, risk from carcinogenic and mutagenic agents, physical risk) and the related prevention and protection measures. They should also be familiar with proper waste management methods and fire prevention and protection procedures. |
