| Educational objectives | MASTER'S DEGREE GRADUATES IN DENTISTRY POSSESS A LEVEL OF PROFESSIONAL, CULTURAL, DECISIONAL, AND OPERATIONAL AUTONOMY THAT ENABLES THEM TO CONTINUOUSLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, HAVING FOLLOWED AN EDUCATIONAL PATH CHARACTERIZED BY A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO THE ORAL HEALTH PROBLEMS OF BOTH HEALTHY AND SICK INDIVIDUALS, ALSO IN RELATION TO THE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT THAT SURROUNDS THEM. AS REPORTED IN THE TABLE OF QUALIFYING EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES, MASTER'S DEGREE GRADUATES IN THE CLASS MUST HAVE, AMONG OTHERS, KNOWLEDGE OF: • THE ETHICAL AND HISTORICAL DIMENSIONS OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY (HISTORY, ETHICS) • SOCIOLOGY AND ETHICS (SOCIOLOGY, BIOETHICS) • LEGISLATION CONCERNING THE PRACTICE OF DENTISTRY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRY WHERE THE DENTIST PRACTICES • GENERAL DENTAL WORK ORGANIZATION AND ITS DYNAMICS (ERGONOMICS). THE PROPEDEUTICA CLINICA COURSE IN ODONTOSTOMATOLOGY AIMS TO PROVIDE SUCH KNOWLEDGE, WHICH IS EITHER NOT PRESENT OR ONLY BRIEFLY COVERED IN OTHER TEACHINGS. |

| Teaching methods | LECTURES, PRACTICAL EXERCISES THE TEACHING CONSISTS OF• 5 ECTS/LECTURES (= 30 HOURS)• + 6 HOURS PER STUDENT AT THE DENTAL CENTER, including:• Clinical examination and patient record compilation• Introduction to dental equipment and instruments. |
| Learning verification modality | SYLLABUS AND EXAMS: 1) THE ROLE OF THE DENTIST (historical, legislative, and professional aspects) 2) TEACHING OF DENTISTRY 3) UNIVERSITY POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMS 4) RESEARCH IN DENTISTRY 5) ORGANIZATION OF DENTAL WORK 6) DENTAL AND ORAL EXAMINATION AND PATIENT RECORDS 7) INTRODUCTION TO DENTAL AND ORAL DISEASES The EXAMS will consist of: (EXEMPTION FROM DENTAL ANATOMY IF NOT ALREADY TAKEN IN THE ANATOMY EXAM: 30 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS). 1. WRITTEN EXEMPTION – GENERALLY CONSISTING OF 9 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS (EACH WORTH TWO POINTS) + 3 OR 4 OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS (EACH WORTH 4 OR 3 POINTS) ON PARTS 1, 2, 3, 4, AND 5 OF THE SYLLABUS, TO BE HELD AROUND MID-COURSE (MID-LATE APRIL). 2. A FINAL ORAL EXAM ON PARTS 5, 6, 7 TO BE HELD AT THE END OF THE COURSE. |
