- Educational objectives
- Learning Objectives The course is designed to provide students with specific knowledge, skills, and competences in the field of social and intercultural pedagogy. By the end of the course, students are expected to have acquired the fundamental concepts of the discipline and to understand their implications for contemporary educational contexts. Knowledge Students will acquire knowledge related to: -the epistemology of social and intercultural pedagogy; -the educational challenges of contemporary society and the concept of “plural education”; -educational poverty; -educational contexts: family, school, and community; -educational professionalism in a global context; -the features of complex and global society; -the concepts of identity, culture, otherness, diversity, and difference; -the characteristics of multiculturalism, interculturality, and intercultural education; -the main challenges of intercultural education; -the promotion of intercultural competences; -perspectives on integration and interculturality as the new normal of education; - the contribution of Edgar Morin to rethinking education for the future, particularly awareness of the limits of knowledge (error, uncertainty, illusion), complex thinking, the integration of knowledge, understanding of the human condition, and planetary citizenship. Skills The course aims to develop students’ ability to: -understand the variability of social contexts and educational practices; -critically question and problematize the knowledge acquired; -engage in reflective practices; -connect pedagogical perspectives with contemporary global and intercultural challenges. Competences -Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: -design educational interventions in complex societies; -develop effective communicative and relational skills; -strengthen critical-reflective, decision-making, and problematizing competences; -analyse problems and elaborate solutions with independent judgment; -apply the specific competences of the educational profession in complex contexts; -transfer theoretical knowledge into practical educational settings; -develop the capacity for lifelong learning (“learning to learn”).

- In order to fully understand the contents of this course, it is advisable to have previously taken the examination in General Pedagogy.

- Attendance is not compulsory, but students are strongly encouraged to attend the course. Non-attending students may follow the same programme as attending students. Students are also advised to make systematic use of the Unistudium platform, which will be regularly updated with supplementary materials and essential communications. - Written Examination 3 open-ended questions to be answered in short essays (maximum 15 lines each) Duration: 1 hour

- The course programme is organised into two main parts. Social Pedagogy -Social pedagogy within the field of educational sciences; -Areas of study in social pedagogy; -Socio-cultural pedagogy; -The centrality of life contexts in personal development; -Educational poverty and social marginalisation; -Adolescents and NEETs; -Knowledge society and educating society: the integrated educational system and lifelong learning; -Education as a means of countering social exclusion: the central role of school; -Current issues in social pedagogy: family pedagogy, human rights education, the educational function of residential communities for minors, juvenile justice, and reception facilities. Intercultural Pedagogy: -The epistemology of intercultural pedagogy; -Globalisation and multicultural society; -Social complexity; -From multiculturalism to interculturality; -Concepts of identity, otherness, culture, diversity, and difference; -Intercultural education as the new normal of education. Intercultural competences for life in a pluralistic society. From this perspective, education is conceived as a challenge for the future, capable of combining roots and transformation, tradition and innovation, and the local with the global.
