- The course explores the epistemological foundations of general pedagogy, with a specific focus on the concepts of education and the educational relationship, understood as central dimensions of educational processes. The educational relationship will be examined across different contexts (school, family, and early childhood services) as an essential tool for personal development and for the quality of educational pathways. The course will also address key issues of contemporary education: the relationship between theory and practice, the role of school within the Italian Constitution, educational co-responsibility between school and family, early childhood services, and alternative forms of schooling. Special attention will be given to the centrality of emotions, regarded as a fundamental resource for educational professionalism and for the development of authentic relationships. Education will also be considered as a horizon of meaning and as a challenge within complex societies, in dialogue with Edgar Morin’s perspective in Seven Complex Lessons in Education for the Future: awareness of error and uncertainty, complex thinking, the integration of knowledge, understanding of the human condition, and education for planetary citizenship.

- Educational objectives
- This course provides students with a theoretical and reflective framework that places the educational relationship at the core of pedagogy and highlights the centrality of emotions as an essential resource for educational professionalism. Education is presented not only as a practice rooted in tradition but also as a horizon constantly being redefined. Within this perspective, Edgar Morin’s contribution offers a critical lens to rethink the education of the future, addressing uncertainty, integrating knowledge, and fostering planetary citizenship. Education thus emerges as both a challenge in complex societies and a space for constructing new possibilities for human development. Learning objectives Knowledge: -By the end of the course, students will have acquired knowledge concerning: -the epistemology of general pedagogy; -the concepts of education and educational relationship across different contexts (school, family, early childhood services); -the centrality of emotions in educational processes and professional practice; -the main issues of contemporary education: theory–practice relationship, school and Constitution, educational co-responsibility, early childhood services, and alternative schooling; -Edgar Morin’s contribution to rethinking the education of the future, through the Seven Complex Lessons: awareness of error and uncertainty, complex thinking, integration of knowledge, understanding of the human condition, and education for planetary citizenship. Skills The course aims to develop students’ ability to: -critically analyse educational practices and complex contexts; -recognise and enhance the educational relationship as a tool for growth and pedagogical mediation; -integrate emotional, relational, and cognitive dimensions into educational processes; -problematise acquired concepts through reflective practice. Competences Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: -apply the concepts of general pedagogy in different educational settings; -design educational interventions that value relationships, emotions, and complexity; -adopt a critical-reflective and decision-making approach with autonomy of judgment; -use theoretical frameworks (particularly Morin’s thought) to guide educational practices towards a sustainable and inclusive future; -develop competences for lifelong learning (learning to learn).
