- Contents
- The course provides knowledge in the assessment of the environmental impact of products and processes, with a particular focus on materials and processes for the decarbonization in energy and industrial systems. The course covers: • the main environmental indicators and provides an overview of the environmental situation at both global and national levels; • technologies, procedures, and technological solutions for mitigating environmental impact, with particular attention to decarbonization; • technologies and processes for circular economy.

- Educational objectives
- The main objective of the course is to provide students with the regulatory framework and technical tools necessary to assess the environmental impact of products and processes. The key learning outcomes include: • knowledge of environmental indicators; • understanding of technologies, procedures, and technological solutions for mitigating environmental impact; • knowledge of technologies and processes for the decarbonization of energy and industrial systems, as well as for the circular economy.

- The course is organized as follows: - theoretical and practical lessons on all the course topics
- Learning verification modality
- Oral test, during which the course topics and the paper produced by the candidate and assigned by the teacher in the initial phase of the course will be discussed.
- Extended program
- Climate changes. Causes of climate change, future scenarios and external costs. Indicators correlated with climate change: radiative forcing e comparison between anthropogenic and natural drivers. The CO2 equivalent and the indicators related to it: carbon abtment cost, mitigation potential. - Environmental indicators for products and processes. Carbon foot print, water foot print, ecological footprint, LCA. Examples of calculation. - Environmental impact mitigation methods. Technologies, procedures and technological solutions for decarbonization of energy and industrial systems. -Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
