Extended program
Principles of Ecotoxicology Definition and aims of ecotoxicology. Main classes of environmental contaminants. Mechanisms of toxic action: bioaccumulation, biomagnification, biotransformation, and metabolism. Toxicity Assessment Methods Ecotoxicological tests (in vivo and in vitro). Bioindicators and biomarkers in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Predictive and forecasting models for toxicity and environmental risk assessment. Emerging Pollutants and Ecotoxicological Impacts Micro- and nanoplastics: environmental distribution, interactions with organisms, biological effects. Nanomaterials: applications, ecotoxicological risks, and assessment methods. Personal Care Products (PCPs): impact of cosmetics, detergents, UV filters, and pharmaceuticals. Environmental antibiotic resistance: role of ecosystems in the selection and spread of resistant bacteria. Ecotoxicology of Ecosystems and Extreme Environments Effects of contaminants at different levels of biological organization: cells, organisms, populations, communities. Case studies in aquatic and terrestrial ecotoxicology. Ecotoxicological monitoring in remote environments: high-altitude lakes, polar regions, isolated ecosystems. Sampling and analysis techniques in remote environments. Applications of citizen science and innovative tools for monitoring. Legislation and Management of Ecotoxicological Risk European and international regulations (REACH, Water Framework Directive, etc.). Environmental monitoring strategies and impact mitigation. Integrated approaches to ecotoxicological risk management from a One Health perspective. Laboratory Exercises Execution of bioassays and biochemical applications for the measurement of oxidative stress biomarkers in aquatic organisms.
