Contents
The objective of the Course is the development of the students’ understanding and knowledge of international law on the main subject-matters of the discipline. The special part will focus and the international law of the sea and on international environmental law.
Reference texts
Non-attending students may choose between the two following options: 1) GAETA, VINUALES, ZAPPALA, Cassese's International Law, Oxord University Press, 2020. or 2) TANZI, A Concise Introduction to International Law, Giappichelli, 2025; and VEZZANI, Jurisdiction in International Fisheries Law. Evolcing Trends and New Challenges, Wolters Kluwer, 2020, chapters I, II and V.
Educational objectives
Acquisition of knowledge of the origins and foundations of the international community, its subjects, international law-making and normative interactions, and implementation of international law. Selected contemporry issues in international law will be tackled, including in the field of international environmental and maritime law.
Prerequisites
In order to be able to understand and to know how to tackle the course, it is advisable to have some basic notions of Constitutional law.

Other information
Students attending the course can make a presentation in the classroom. For those interested (including non-attending students), a test of autoevaluation will be organized before the end of the course.
Learning verification modality
The exam consists in an oral test, i.e. an interview about the topics included in the programme (lasting approximately 15 minutes), aiming to ascertain the knowledge level and the understanding capability acquired by the student on the topics included in the programme. Attending students, if so desire, can make a speech, which will be taken into consideration in the final evaluation.
