Pollution of the water resources

Educational objectives The student acquires knowledge on the chemical and chemical-physical composition and on the main causes of chemical pollution of the environment.
Thanks to this knowledge the student acquires the ability to identify and menage complex problems in the environmental field in the evaluation of anthropogenic pressures.
Prerequisites - Concepts of chemical equilibrium and chemical kinetics; - Knowledge of inorganic chemistry;
- Knowledge of organic chemistry;
- Knowledge of the concepts of repartition between phases.

Extended program Atmospheric Pollution: The layers of the atmosphere, their composition, and their chemical-physical properties. Main sources of pollution. Pollution from the combustion and their toxic effects. Polluting secondary and their formation: the acid rains, the formation of ozone in the low atmospheric layers: the fotosmog. Ozone destruction in the stratosphere.

Pollution of the water resources: Hydrosphere chemical-physical properties. Water natural cycle. Classes of polluting and their danger environmental. The bacterial metabolism: anabolism and catabolism. Influences some bacterial metabolism on the cleansing of the water resources. Proceeded aerobic and anaerobic and main biological reactions involved. The measure of the biochemical request of oxygen, BOD, and of that chemistry, COD. Pollution of the lakes, the main effects leading to the phenomenon of eutrophication. Study of causes and damages produced.
