Extended program Anti-diabetic drugs. Pharmacology of the cardiovascular system: anti-hypertensive drugs (ACE inhibitors, vasodilators, diuretics); drugs for heart failure (beta-blockers; inotropic agents). General information on the neurotransmission of the central nervous system. Pharmacotherapy of affective disorders (anxiolytic and hypnotic drugs, antidepressant drugs).

and health-promoting properties of food groups, and their use in dietary
prescriptions. Strategies of primary and secondary prevention of age- and
food-related diseases.

Educational objectives
The course is designed to build knowledge and skilling on dietetics and nutritional management of adult and pediatric patients in clinical centers, as well as on strategies and
tools to implement and deliver to individuals and communities the
concept of “healthy diet and life style” (health promotion activity).
Students will gain a background on nutritional requirements in different
physiological conditions such as pregnancy, lactation and weaning,
infancy and adolescence, adulthood and aging, as well as on health
effects of food groups and dietary prevention of age- and food-dependent
diseases (including obesity, malnutrition, and food toxicology and
environmental threats).
Prerequisites
The student should have a solid background in medical biochemistry, physiology and human nutrition.

Profit evaluation will consist of written examination by multiple choice of true/false questions (quizzes); tests will be performed in one
session and will take about 30 minutes.

Energy metabolism – nutrients – vitamins – mineral salts – water - guidelines for proper nutrition Italian – pyramid of foods, concept of portion, food groups, Body composition and nutritional status assessment, Power at different ages and physiological conditions, diet therapy of major diseases, hospital catering and food safety - Protein energy malnutrition: definition, evaluation, risk factors and consequences; hospital malnutrition - anthropometric measurements (weight, height, circumferences) - artificial nutrition
