- The course will focus on the history and evolution of international organizations from the end of the 19th century to the present. In particular, the following topics will be covered: - Internationalism in the age of nationalism: the first forms of international cooperation (the Public International Unions, the Hague system, the first transnational civil society organizations) - The League of Nations: collective security and economic and social cooperation - The United Nations system: collective security, development cooperation and protection of human rights - International financial institutions: the origins and transformation of their role - Regional organizations and groups of states

- ATTENDING students will be provided with the program, with the list of essays and articles to study, before the start of the course on the Unistudium platform. NON-ATTENDING students will refer to the following texts: John Allphin Moore jr.and Jerry Pubantz, The New United Nations. International Organization in the Twenty-First Century, New York, Routledge, 2023. All study materials are available to students at the Biblioteca di studi Storici, politici e sociali or can be found through the University's digital library (Unipg Primo https://csb.unipg.it/ ) Only materials not otherwise available will be made available through the Unistudium platform.
- Educational objectives
- Through the analysis of the origins, historical evolution and functioning of the main international organizations, the course aims to provide students with critical tools to interpret the transformations of the international system from the end of the nineteenth century to today. It also aims to refine dialectical and individual analysis skills, offering students opportunities for in-depth seminars.

- For students who attend the course, the evaluation will be based on: - Two optional written tests, one halfway through the course (immediately after the teaching break) and the other at the end of the course - A presentation on a topic covered in the course, which must be explored by the student and presented in class. - A short oral interview - Regular attendance and active participation in the lessons will constitute additional and important elements of evaluation Each of these tests will be assigned a grade that will contribute to defining the final grade. Students who are present at 25 out of 30 lessons will be considered attending For students who do not attend the course, the evaluation will be based on: - A final oral test during the exam sessions that will focus on both the general part of the program and the monographic part. The exam will be aimed at ascertaining the knowledge, in-depth analysis and ability to critically analyze the topics covered. Erasmus students and international students will be able to request teaching materials and take all tests in English. Please contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on a specific path.
