- MINIATURE AND GOLDSMITH'S ART IN THE AGE OF GIOTTO. This course offers an in-depth study, from a technical and stylistic perspective, of the production of illuminated manuscripts and goldsmith's art between the 13th and 14th centuries. The production of illuminated manuscripts between the late 13th and early 14th centuries involved both the major artistic workshops of the time and specialized illuminators in this field. Studying (and viewing) these illustrated manuscripts, both liturgical and secular, will allow us to follow the development of pictorial trends during this crucial phase of medieval art. Similarly, in goldsmith's art, the era of translucent enamel began, inaugurated by the Sienese Guccio di Mannaia with the chalice of Pope Nicholas IV (ca. 1290). For several decades, it would be one of the most popular techniques in goldsmith's art and, more generally, in Italian and European art.
