Students having a 6 CFU exam can choose if excluding the 19th century part or the monographic part.
Educational objectives
It is expected that students will be able to understand the main events of contemporary history as well as to identify the historical roots of nowadays political, cultural and socio-economic processes.
Prerequisites
In order to adequately understand the subject of the lessons, students should have a clear knowledge of the time sequence Medieval history-Modern history-Contemporary history. They also should know the main events and historical processes of 19th and 20th century.
Teaching methods
Metodi didattici METODI_DID Sì Il corso si articolerà in lezioni frontali che verteranno sulle tematiche della parte generale e monografica sopra esposte. Le lezioni saranno arricchite dall’illustrazione di filmati video, di foto, grafici, tabelle e carte presentate in formato Power Point. Traditional lessons will expose the contents of the above-mentioned general and specific subject. Videos, graphs, photos, charts and maps in Power Point format will also be used in the class.

Attending the class is not compulsory, but recommended.
Students are considered as attending the course whether they are present at 2/3 of the lessons.
Learning verification modality
The course consists of a general section and a monographic section. For the first one, students must pass one written test, consisting in a blank map, four open-ended questions and three closed questions. The test must be filled in within an hour. Students can choose to divide the program in two parts and therefore to do two tests instead of one (the first from the Italian unification process to the First World War; the second from the period after the The First World War to nowadays). Students attending the class will have the possibility to do the test during the lessons. The written test is necessary, on the one hand, to ascertain the level of knowledge acquired by students about the issues discussed during the lessons; on the other hand, to verify their ability to articulate, and exposing in a clear and understandable manner their thoughts in writing. To pass the monographic section, instead, students must undergo an oral examination, of variable duration depending on the course of the examination itself. The interview aims to verify the levels of knowledge and understanding reached by students with regard to the themes of the monographic section and, at the same time, their capability to communicate with an appropriate language what they have learnt by the lessons and the reading of the The course consists of a general section and a monographic section. Programma esteso PROGR_EST Sì Parte istituzionale/generale: verranno affrontati, sinteticamente, i principali avvenimenti politico-istituzionali e i più importanti processi economici, sociali e culturali dall'unità d'Italia a oggi. In particolare, i più significativi processi storici dell'Ottocento (l’espansione e il consolidamento degli stati nazionali, l’imperialismo europeo, la seconda rivoluzione industriale, la Belle Époque) e quelli del Novecento (dalla prima guerra mondiale al maturare dei regimi autoritari e totalitari dell'Europa; dallo sviluppo, interrotto dalla crisi del 1929, degli Stati Uniti alle dinamiche della deottomanizzazione in Medio Oriente e alla maturazione dei nuovi equilibri in Asia; dalla seconda guerra mondiale alla guerra fredda; dalla crescita economica del periodo 1950-1973 all'avvento dell’era post-industriale: dalla decolonizzazione all'emergere della questione mediorientale; dal crollo del comunismo alla crisi della Prima Repubblica e l'emergere della Seconda; dall'evoluzione delle relazioni internazionali dopo il crollo del bipolarismo all'11 settembre 2001 e le sue conseguenze; dalla globalizzazione e l'emergere del mondo dei nuovi media a uno sguardo sulla realtà attuale).

Namely, the most meaningful historical processes of the 19th century (the growth and strengthening of nation states, European imperialism, the second industrial revolution, the Belle Epoque) and of the 20th century (the First World War, the creation of the authoritarian and totalitarian regimes, the economic and political development of the United States, stopped by the 1929 crisis, the deottomanization process in the Middle East, the new equilibrium in Asia, the Second World War, the Cold War, the Golden Age of 1950-1973, the post-industrial age, decolonization, the Middle East issue, the fall of Communist regimes, the crisis of the First Italian Republic and the emergence of the Second, international relations after the crisis of bipolarism, 11 Sptermber 2001 and its aftermath, globalization and the emergence of new media.
