Contents | The complete course is structured in 9 modules which focus on: the concept of economics in the history of economic thought, the aims and methods of economic science, the fundamental characteristic of the method of economic investigation; the analysis of consumer and firm behavior and the different forms of market equilibrium: perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, monopsony; the analysis of strategic interactions (game theory); the analysis of the optimal choices under external constraints; the main market failures. Although the discussion of some topics provides technical insights, including the mathematical techniques of constrained optimization, the general orientation of the course is aimed at the methodological and institutional understanding of the modern microeconomic theory. |
