Contents Laboratory of Applied Physics discusses the main issues of Technical Physics and allows the student to gain experience on the use of laboratory equipment.
Reference texts Title: Lezioni di Fisica Tecnica, Author: Prof. Mauro Felli.

Educational objectives The course examines in depth the main topics of Applied Physics through laboratory activities. The main obtained competences are a full practice on laboratory equipment utilization and on measurement campaigns’ execution in energy, acoustical and lighting fields.
Prerequisites Applied Physics exam
Teaching methods The course is organized as follows:
- preliminary lecture on the scheduled topic;
- laboratory activity at Applied Physics Lab, Terni.

Extended program Indoor Acoustics. Measurement of the reverberation time, measurement of sound reduction index, measure the indexes of acoustical comfort.
Outdoor Acoustics. Measurement of environmental noise.
Lighting enginnering. Elements of colorimetry, measurements of illuminance and colour temperature.
Porosimeter. Measurement of the pore diameter statistical distribution.
Gas chromatography. Measurement of the composition of a gaseous mixture.
Infrared Thermography. Measurement of radiant energy.
Photovoltaic panels. Measurement of electricity production and VI curve.

Contents Students will be involved in research activities at SESLAB. Depending on the student's interests and on ongoing activities the lab can focus on: design of mechanical components and processes, software modeling, feasibility studies, practical lab analysis on instruments and pilot plants.
Reference texts Reference material will be provided according to the chosen topic.
Educational objectives The student will demonstrate the capacity to carry out autonomously a research or design task, to draft an executive report of his activity and to present the results in a brief talk.

Teaching methods Hands on activity an weekly meeting to discuss advancement.
Other information
Learning verification modality Evaluation of the exectuive report and of the presentation talk.
Extended program Design and research activities will focus on:
- renewable energy sources (wind, solar, biomass and waste);
- biogas, pyrolysis, biochar, gasification, combustion;
- air and water emission control;
