Educational objectives | The student should demonstrate the student's familiarity with the relevant literature on the subject and the ability to conduct analysis/research, interpret the findings and draw conclusions. The exam should be presented in a coherent form adhering to academic conventions. |

Teaching methods | The oral qualifying examination is administered by a committee composed of 3 members appointed by the dean of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the executive committee of the group. The examination should be taken after the end of the course. The student will be examined on the topics of the course provided to the qualifying examination committee. The student will be examined also on general knowledge of mechanics of structures as well as in two specialized areas of sustainable materials. |

Contents | The course deals metallic materials fabrication processes with particular attention to iron based alloys production. Starting from chemical physics principles, the ladle furnace and electric furnace processes will be deeply analyzed, with emphasis to the material properties achievable by them. Attention is devoted to hydrogen based processes, to envirinemmntalmpact and to slag recycling processes. |
