Educational objectives
Expected learning outcomes:
The course aims at providing students with the tools for a good understanding and knowledge of Italian historical linguistics, with particular reference to two programmatic expressions of pride for the municipal language in Umbria (16th-18th c.).
Prerequisites
In order to fully understand this subject, students should have a basic knowledge of Latin language.
Teaching methods
Traditional lectures on each topic addressed in the course. Use of the projector in order to display documents to be linguistically commented.
Learning verification modality
Students who do not attend the classes will take oral exams at the end of the term on modules A, B (general part) and C (monographic part).
Students who attend the classes can take oral mid-term examinations on modules A and/or B, and complete their final exam (i.e. remaining modules) at the end of the term.
The exams are aimed at assessing the acquisition of competences on the subject and the correct use of the technical vocabulary, as well as the capability of reasoning and synthesis. Students will be assessed on the topics treated during the lectures and on the relevant bibliography. The duration of the exams is variable.
Extended program
The course addresses two main issues: i) an outline of the history of Italian language, including historical grammar of Italian and of the main Italian dialects, as well as basics of articulatory phonetics; ii) the language debate in Perugia during the XVI Centuries and “I Megliacci” by Mario Podiani (1530).
