Prerequisites In order to understand and use the concepts described in teaching are considered preparatory exams anatomical physiological bases of the human body, pathophysiological bases of the disease, molecular and cellular bases of life and Pharmacology and semiotics Nursing.
Teaching methods Face-to-face lessons: lectures on all subjects of the module.
Learning verification modality The exam includes an oral exam consisting of a discussion aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding achieved by students on the topics presented in class and listed in the programs. The student must demonstrate knowledge of the main signs and symptoms of the fundamental oncological diseases, to know the criteria for management of drug therapy and other diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The oral test will also verify the communication skills of the student, his command of the language, the ability to apply the acquired skills and develop solutions in independent judgment.
Extended program Epidemiology of human cancers: prevalence in the population, geographic distribution of tumors; distribution according to age.
Etiology: intrinsic or genetic factors. The oncogenic viruses. The immune response against tumors. Pathogenic factors extrinsic: food agents, physical agents, chemical agents, biological agents.
Carcinogenesis: initiation, promotion and progression. Metastases and their distribution channels.
Classification of tumors
Prevention and early diagnosis: primary prevention, secondary prevention, guidelines for screening.
Detection, diagnosis and staging: diagnostic imaging, tumor markers, histologic evidence, TNM staging.
Treatment: surgery; chemotherapy (antineoplastic toxicity ); radiation oncology, cell therapy, innovative therapy.
