Extended program | The course aims to analyze the objectives and methods of Psycholinguistics. The mental processes involved in comprehension, production and acquisition of language, both in oral and in written dimension, will be investigated. Specifically, the following topics will be addressed: INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLINGUISTICS Linguistics and Psycholinguistics Psychology and Psycholinguistics: cognitivism Models of psycholinguistic research DEVELOPMENT OF LANGUAGE Models of recognition of words heard Models of reading Models of oral production KNOWLEDGE ASSOCIATED WITH WORDS Mental lexicon The role of morphology in language processing The understanding of the meanings FROM WORDS TO TEXTS How conceptual and semantic knowledge is represented and processed in the mind and brain (Encyclopedia and mindsets, inferential processes) Models of text comprehension FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE Ambiguity of language and interpretation Models for the understanding of idiomatic expressions |

Educational objectives | Acquiring a thorough knowledge of aphasia and related theoretical models, principles, methods and evaluation tools, acquisition of speech and language assessment methodology for the functional diagnosis. |
Prerequisites | In order to understand the topics of the course and to be able to apply the operating procedures described, the student must possess knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, general concepts of neuropsychology, knowledge about the structure of language in its levels of articulation. |

Learning verification modality | Progress assessment and final oral exam. The final oral test consists in a discussion-interview on the topics discussed during the course and examined in-depth through recommended texts. The duration of the test varies depending on the performance of the test itself. |
