- The professionalizing course allows students to acquire basic knowledge on the management of small animal with multiple trauma in order to develop a proper treatment for the management of both the emergency and the treatment of urgency.

- D1 students with the opportunity to deal with case studies relevant to the course during the diagnostic-therapeutic in veterinary hospital.
D2 The main knowledge gained will be:
• basic criteria for a correct diagnostic approach to the traumatized patient;
• basic knowledge to identify the most suitable treatment to stabilize the patient.
D3 The main skills are:
• identify and analyze the clinical and radiographic findings useful for diagnosis;
• choice of the surgical procedure most appropriate for the case.

- In order to understand and be able to implement procedures that traumatology needs, knowledge of the teachings of surgical interest on small animals are required
- Teaching methods
- The ADE is organized as follows: practical exercises in surgical or ambulatory rooms of the Surgery Unit of the OVUD. Students according to the number, will be divided into two or three groups and while one group works directly on the patient's diagnostic and surgical procedures (two hours), an other one use, under the professor's supervision, the teaching supports (ppt) to learn about the different steps to use in the treatment of the more common traumatology condition of the small animals with the use of the models -bone/joint- (two hours)

at the end of the course - Learning verification modality
- The exam includes an oral exam at the end of the course with achievement of fitness.
The oral exam in a discussion lasting about 15 minutes aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding reached by the student on the clinical case under consideration.
The oral exam will also test the ability of the student to communicate with of a correct terminology and to know the correct sequence of the various stages that the clinical case in question requires. - Extended program
- The integrated course on small animal's traumatology includes a first section that discusses issues related to the management of polytrauma patients from the referral and clinical examination to its stabilization.
Afterward the most frequent injuries of , both the appendicular and axial skeleton are considered, as well as the main techniques for fractures reduction and fixation:
Type of fracture: complete, incomplete, simple, comminuted, closed or exposed.
General concepts of internal fixation with plates: traditional plates (DCP), a fixed-angle plates (LCP), traditional and minimally invasive procedure (MIPO).
External fixation: linear fixation, circular and hybrid systems.
Conservative treatment of fractures: various types of bandages.
