Educational objectives
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must be able to physically evaluate an animal that is presented in emergency setting and to decide the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary for its stabilization.

D2 - APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training the student will become familiar with the main procedures for the stabilization in the critically ill patient. it will also be able to perform triage on the animal and to support the teaching and medical staff of the VTH during emergency.

D3 - MAKING JUDGEMENT
At the end of the training the student will have to demonstrate his ability to apply the acquired knowledge in the analysis of real examples, in order to define the appropriate procedures.

D4 - COMMUNICATION
At the end of the training the student will be able to effectively relate with the owner as well as the other members of the team.

D5 - LIFELONG LEARNING SKILLS
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
- consult and understand bibliographic updates and normative dictations, so as to employ them in routinary practice
- manage a sufficiently broad mastery of these topics to guarantee and acceptable basis for continuing professional updating

Learning verification modality
check of the frequency. At the end of the training students will be offered a self-evaluation test. the paper provides
30 multiple choice questions (score of 1 for correct answer, 0 for no answer and -0.25 for wrong
answer). the goal is to achieve a score more than 15.

- introduction

- the stabilization of critically ill patient: how to set up fluid and oxygen therapy; the pharmacological containment, the nutritional support (4 hours, including seminary and discussion on clinical cases)

- the politraumatized patient ((1 h discussion on clinical cases, 2 h practical activity)

- How to approach animals with urinary tract obstruction (1 h discussion on clinical cases, 2 h practical activity)

- The neurological emergencies (1 h discussion on clinical cases, 2 h practical activity)

- How to handle patients with acute gastrointestinal signs (1 h discussion on clinical cases, 2 h practical activity)

- SIRS and MODS (1 hdiscussion on clinical cases, 2 h practical activity)

- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (1 h theoretical lesson, 2 h practical activity)
