The MSc provides top-level biotechnological skills in the medical, veterinary or forensic field. The course is structured in a common first year and a second year characterized by three alternative curricula. The study course is completed by a practical training period in a state or private specialized research institute, in Italy or abroad. Department of Medicine hosts the course and lessons are carried out in the rooms of the “Medical School” or at the Polo Didattico. Most courses foresee formal lectures and practical activities carried out in the university laboratories belonging to the lecturers. The learning, teaching and profit verification activities are reported in the didactic regulation of the MSc.
Programme learning outcomes
Graduates will be able to demonstrate: - methodological, technological, instrumental multidisciplinary skills that will allow to apply the theory-based knowledge towards problem-solving in the medical, veterinary and legal sectors; - ability to plan and organize laboratory work and elaborate on experimental and diagnostic techniques; - knowledge of various biotechnological skills to be interpreted, managed and developed for the study and application of new procedures in diagnostic areas of medical, veterinary, forensic or criminological interest.
Qualification requirements and regulations
Admission to the final test for the achievement of the degree will require that the student has acquired all the credits foreseen in the study plan for training activities other than the final test. The final test for the achievement of the degree is public and foresees the presentation of a thesis work to a designated commission. Thesis may be compilative (bibliographic study of a topic) or experimental (to verify original ideas)
Examination regulations and grading scale
Examination can be oral, written or performed in an alternative manner (seminar, report…) with evaluation measured in thirtieths (from 18 to 30 and eventually cum laude). The exam commission is composed by at least two lecturers, including the holder of the teaching. Training and stage can be carried out also abroad by taking advantage from the Erasmus+ program. The training allows students to practice the theoretical knowledge acquired and can be useful for the preparation of the experimental thesis. The stage, performed in non-academic companies, allows students to get in touch with the world of work
Occupational profiles of graduates
The graduates’ employment areas are research, health, biotechnological, pharmaceutical, food and food transformation industry, technical-scientific information and clinical trial monitoring, environmental protection agencies, consultancy in the legal and forensic field
