Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry
Verification of the required knowledge through a compulsory evaluation test of indicative and non-selective nature; subjects of the test are related to mathematics and physic. To train for the test the student will be granted with alignment courses and tutoring. If the test is not passed, the student will not be able to access the mathematics and physic exams and will be granted with further alignment courses and tutoring.
Profile of the programme
The three-year Degree Course in Civil and Environmental Engineering trains professional figures capable to cover operational and liaison functions and roles in a purely technical job context. The knowledge and skills acquired are used for the design, construction, management and maintenance of medium complexity buildings and civil infrastructures. The basic training related to the disciplines of mathematical analysis, physics, chemistry, rational mechanics, modelling and digital representation, in addition to the professionalizing aspects described, prepares the graduate for the higher level training path represented by the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and the Master's Degree in Engineering for the Environment and the Territory.
Programme learning outcomes
Graduates will gain skills that allow: - the design of structural elements, structures and foundation works, roads and hydraulic infrastructures; - planning and execution of surveys; - the physical-mechanical characterization of lands and experimental test methods; - the design of medium-sized and complex residential buildings and the choice of construction techniques, innovative materials, relief of the structures, economic evaluation of the production processes in a circular economy perspective.
Qualification requirements and regulations
Admission to the final test for the achievement of the qualification will require that the student has acquired all the credits foreseen in the study plan for training activities other than the final test. The final test for the achievement of the qualification is public and consists of the presentation of a thesis work to a special commission which consists of: a) a written test in which the student must demonstrate that she/he has achieved knowledge suitable for the starting of the professional activity. b) a personal work prepared under the supervision of at least one teacher of the study course.
Examination regulations and grading scale
Assessment is normally an oral or written exam; in some cases there are intermediate exams during the course; other evaluation elements (seminars, reports, etc.) can be foreseen in specific course units and are described in the Course Unit Profiles. The grades for subject exams are measured in thirtieths (0-30 scale), the minimum grade is 18/30 and the maximum grade is 30/30. The maximum grade can be enhanced with “cum laude” (30 cum laude), in case of excellence. Grades are given by an exam commission of at least two teachers, whose President is the chair of the subject. The main exam sessions are held in January/February, March/April, June/July, September/October. Students may retake exams, if not passed. The University provides an ECTS Grading Table, which shows the actual distribution of the examination and final grades among students for each degree program. The final degree evaluation is expressed in one hundred and tenths (0-110 scale), the minimum grade is 66/110 and the maximum grade is 110/110. The calculation of the final grade of each candidate takes into account the average of the grades obtained in the subject exams, as well as the quality of the work performed in research or in the final thesis which is discussed in public before an exam commission. “Cum laude” (110 cum laude) may be added to the maximum grade if the exam commission decides unanimously.
Obligatory or optional mobility windows
There are no obligatory mobility windows. Vice versa, the mobility windows are identified according to the student's needs.
Work-based learning
The Degree Course provides a support service for students in the activation of internships and placements in subjects from the world of work where carrying out activities aimed at specific training projects and, possibly, preparing the final exam (thesis). Traineeship activities consist of: - Agreements with companies / companies / public administrations for the training of students close to their entry into the world of work. - Evaluation by the hosting subject of the student's internship.
Occupational profiles of graduates
Graduates can develop professional activities as: - designer of medium complexity civil works and infrastructures; - technical officer / manager in the Engineering and Professional Studies Companies; - official/manager in the Public Administration with prevailing management and control duties in design offices, planning of civil works, infrastructures and urban and territorial systems; - site manager; - designer/consultant in Service Company for feasibility studies of civil works and infrastructures.
