Educational objectives
At the end of the course the student should achive the understanding of the basics concepts of semiotics and narratological theory and the analysis skills for the comprehension of texts on different media.

Face-to-face lectures; student participation to discussion is strongly welcomed

Student participation to classes is strongly welcomed.
Learning verification modality
The exam includes only the final oral test consisting of a discussion-interview on the topics discussed during the course and examined in-depth through recommended texts.

First Module. What is Semiotics?
An introduction to semiotics basic concepts; history of the semiotic paradigm; different perspectives and methods of the discipline; contemporary research in the field
Second Module. Semiotics and Narratology
The central role of the concept of storytelling in contemporary culture; basics for the analysis of narrative texts; intertextuality, cultural interdiscoursivity, and intermediality
Third Module. Semiotics and the Television Narratives
The fundamental role of television series in our media culture; the semiotic analysis of tv series; basic concept of television communication techniques and devices
